The Surrogate Floyd, Brayford Village Hall, Saturday 17th March 2007

Nationally famous and much admired Pink Floyd tribute band Think Floyd made a welcome return to the Queen's Theatre, Barnstaple at the beginning of the month, but on Saturday 17th March it was the turn of North Devon's own version The Surrrogate Floyd to make their debut.

Forming a Pink Floyd tribute band is not a task to be undertaken lightly, but The Surrogate Floyd certainly showed that they have the talent and ambition to successfully recreate the subtlety, complexity and emotion of the original music.

The first half opened with Shine On You Crazy Diamond followed by Learning To Fly.  A strange and elusive feedback problem threatened to mar the whole performance but Brayford's own lead singer and guitarist Jamie Hartnoll showed an incredible ability to keep playing while attempting to sort things out. In the end the band took a short break to fix the problem, successfully as it turned out. Part one also included Take It Back, Another Brick In The Wall and Sorrow.

After the interval, the band returned with a substantial part of Dark Side Of The Moon including Speak To Me, Breathe In The Air, Time, Money, Brain Damage and Eclipse. The evening concluded with Mother, Comfortably Numb, Wish You Were Here and Run Like Hell.

A great debut performance - let's hope for more in the future.
