WHAT WILL MY CHILD LEARN?

We send out a copy of our half terms planning at the beginning of the term which will include details of daily adult led activities.

Our activities and the resources we place out for free play are planned around the Early Years Foundation curriculum. This has six areas of learning:

* Personal, social and emotional development
* Physical development
* Creative development
* Communication, language and literacy
* Problem solving, reasoning and numeracy
* Knowledge and understanding of the world.

It is not just our planned activities that covers this curriculum, for example outside play will enhance these areas of learning - e.g. we raced apples down the play area stream which covers many areas including PSRN and KUOW.

We have a topic each half-term which we sometimes base our activities around. These are usually based around the children’s current interests, or festivals from the calendar.

OUR ROUTINE

At Boomerangs we follow a routine to allow the children to know what is happening and to feel secure. This is only a guide, and may alter if we have a visitor, or the children are very interested in what they are involved in.

9.00

Open

Please help your child to find their name on the table and put it in the register pot! This will help to encourage name recognition.

9.15

Circle time

This includes registration, stories & singing. We choose our special helper and discuss what we are going to do during the day. We often play games and have show & tell. Stories/songs may be child chosen or linked to our topic.

9.30

Free play & adult led activity

Children play at self chosen activities, but are also encouraged to join in with an adult led activity. This could be art, craft, cookery, role play, shape, number, literacy games or a topic related activity. At the end of free play we all tidy up together.

10.30

Snack time

Children wash their hands and have a snack and drink together. The children are encouraged to participate in making snacks when possible.

10.45

Outside play

Children put on appropriate outdoor clothing to go outside. This is generally in the Brayford Primary School play-ground with bikes/balls/hoops etc.

11.45

Prepare for lunch

The group returns to the hall. We enjoy a story and then the children wash their hands and find their names/number/colour on the table ready for lunch.
